Chapter Two: Sunday Morning Delusion
And the Evil at Work in the Church Today
Campaign advertisements often mention the importance of each vote. However, we know that presidents are elected through the electoral college, and each vote, although important, is not significant alone. Despite the Sunday morning Christians' hollow confessions that God is real, we are alone in our commitment to God the Almighty. God judges nations according to their people's actions, and our actions have not been the most honorable. Sunday morning Christians are focused on their devoted things, which does not bring glory to God.
But the Israelites were unfaithful in regard to the devoted things; Achan son of Karmi, the son of Zimri, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took some of them. So the Lord's anger burned against Israel.
Joshua 7:1, NIV
Like Achan, Sunday morning Christians have indulged in devoted things. They have placed many things above the Lord, which is evident in their lifestyles. They are not alone in this. Christians often find value in material things beyond the boundaries of their relationship with Christ. The Church should be aware of this and labor for righteousness. Because of the devoted things in Christians’ lives, combined with the growing number of Sunday morning Christians within the Church, Christians cannot stand against their enemy. Christians have lowered their shields, turned their backs on the Word of God, and fled from the calling placed on them by Christ Himself. For these reasons, they are led into captivity by an unruly nation of non-believers. The world's sinners lead the righteous away from God. With every vote against Christianity, this reality is made more evident.
The Lord said to Joshua, "Stand up! What are you doing down on your face? 11 Israel has sinned; they have violated my covenant, which I commanded them to keep. They have taken some of the devoted things; they have stolen, they have lied, they have put them with their own possessions. 12 That is why the Israelites cannot stand against their enemies; they turn their backs and run because they have been made liable to destruction. I will not be with you anymore unless you destroy whatever among you is devoted to destruction.
Joshua 7: 10-12, NIV
